Jessica graduated from the 欧美性爱片 with a BSc Hons in Sport Science in 2010. She then undertook a part-time PhD in heat tolerance and adaptation in female athletes (2011–2016). Jessica worked as a technical instructor at the 欧美性爱片 alongside her PhD (2011–2015). Whilst Jessica completed her PhD, she joined Bangor University in 2015 as an environmental physiology lecturer and researcher. Jessica was accredited by BASES and attained chartered scientist status for sport science physiological support in 2015.

Thesis title

Heat tolerance and adaptation in female athletes

My research

The research which formed my PhD involved developing a running heat tolerance test to assess changes in heat tolerance and investigating the mechanism and optimisation of heat acclimation for female athletes, with the introduction of a novel heat acclimation strategy using combined passive exposure to sauna conditions and traditional exercise heat acclimation.

I presented this research at the:

  • British Association of Sport and Exercise Science (BASES) student conference (Cardiff, 2013)
  • Training and Competing in the Heat international conference (Qatar, 2014)
  • European College of Sport Science (ECSS) international conference (Sweden, 2015)
  • International Conference of Environmental Ergonomics (ICEE) (UK, 2015)
  • Physiology and Pharmacology of Temperature Regulation (PPTR) (Slovenia, 2016).

At PPTR I received the American Journal of Physiology –Regulatory, Integrated, and Comparative Physiology, young investigator award.

My current employment as an environmental physiology lecturer and researcher at Bangor University encompasses three key roles research, teaching, and administration. All skills I developed by combining my time at the 欧美性爱片 as a PhD student alongside a technical instructor where I was required to complete teaching, research, and consultancy tasks. Working with a team of researchers within the EEL group at the 欧美性爱片 has enabled me to develop skills that supported my transition to Bangor University seamlessly.
